In 2017, Savanna LaFontaine Greywind, 22, was eight months pregnant and eager to begin her new life as a mother while living in Fargo, ND, however, her life was tragically cut short at the hands of her upstairs neighbors.

A member of the Spirit Lake Sioux Tribe, Savanna's brutal murder sparked a movement and led to the passing of Savanna's Act. The Savanna's Act or #MMIW Act reforms law enforcement and justice protocols appropriate to address missing and murdered Native women and for other purposes.
